The "rubber boot" ends were broken off on my E91 320D so I had 4 choices how to deal with this situation: pay 30 EUR for a new OEM part, find a used one that is not broken yet, use duck tape to hold the old one in place, or make a DIY fix myself. This might be the first time that I've used 3D modeling experience for a practical real-life solution: measured the dimensions of attachments where the intake hose connects to the other parts, made the 3D models of the two broken ends and printed them with my Pirx 3D printer. Here's the result: The fix, according to BMW OEM part number 13717795284, works for pre-LCI BMW E90/E91 318D and 320D models with M47N2 engines.
Email me if you need the STL file (CGTrader banned all of the BMW related models, so can't upload it over there anymore).

Don't mind the price of printed model. I'm not selling it, you would be paying to sculpteo.com who are offering the printing service. Since I printed the parts with my own printer, it cost me no more than £1 + several hours or printing time.

My name is Ričardas Marozas, but I am better known in the digital world as 'Pumper' or 'rmpumper'. I became interested in 3D modelling after seeing the first trailer for the game Mafia. It was so cool to see a realistic virtual city that I decided to create virtual worlds myself, but soon realized that it's not as easy as it might seem for someone without experience in the field. As a result I had to abandon the idea of creating virtual worlds of my own and moved on to making only separate elements of one instead. I have published my first model on TurboSquid back in 2004 and have been making and selling 3D models ever since. In order to sometimes take a break from 3D modeling but keep working on something I started producing After Effects project templates in 2013. Sadly, ran out of ideas and skills in the area quite fast. Thank you for visiting my simple page. |
